On the OCIA Journey
What is OCIA? The Order of Christian Initiation for Adults (OCIA) is a journey for adults who seek to learn about the Christian faith, deepen their spiritual life, and enter into full communion with the Catholic Church. St. Pius X Catholic Church warmly welcomes you to our OCIA ministry, where you will encounter Sacred Scripture, the living tradition of the Church, and the core teachings of the Catholic faith in a supportive community, while growing in relationship with God and with one another.
OCIA Schedule: Participants attend Sunday 10:00am Mass at St. Pius X. After the homily, the OCIA community is dismissed for class in the St. Ignatius Room. Each session is 90 minutes, from ~10:30am to ~12noon. The program begins on Sunday, September 7 and continues through the Easter Vigil on Saturday, April 4, with (optional) Mystagogy classes afterwards. See here for Detailed Schedule.
OCIA Terms: A candidate is an OCIA participant who has been baptized in the Catholic Church but has not yet been confirmed. A catechumen (from the Greek word katechoumenos, meaning “one being instructed”) is a participant who has not yet been baptized.
OCIA Ministry: Fr. Michael O’Connor, Pastor of St. Pius X Catholic Church, oversees the ministry, which is led by Deacon José Macias and supported by a dedicated team, working in collaboration with St. Pius’s administrative staff.
